STRALCIO "DALLE ORIGINI ALL'INIZIO DEL SECOLO XX"                                                                        

EXCERPT FROM THE ORIGINS Á. THE BEGINNING OF THE CENTURY XX

È difficile, come per quasi tutti i paesi della nostra zona, fissare l'età esatta dell'inizio della vita cittadina a Pescosolido.
La tradizione ancora viva e confermata dalle cronache cassinesi, ci presenta Pescosolido come "pagus", un agglomerato di case, al principio di un folto bosco, lontano da Sora, principale centro abitato.
Gli abitanti, ancora dalla mentalità pagana, vivevano una
vita prettamente dedicata alla pastorizia. I campi ed i boschi furono luogo di pascolo delle greggi di proprietà dei maggiori signori di Sora, che condizionavano la vita del "pagus".
Mura antichissime, ora ricoperte dalle macerie del terremoto nella zona "Chiaie" e "Grottelle", pezzi di tufo, resti di sepolcreti' con scritte latine e numeri romani che si rinvengo­no arando la terra, tracce di condotte per l'acqua nella zona "Pecchie", dicono l'antichità del paese. Inoltre mons. Piazzoli, nel suo manuale su Pescosolido, suppone l'inizio della vita nel paese tra il VI e il VII secolo e parla di una distruzione del piccolo abitato di Pescosolido
fatta per mano di orde saracene tra l'840 e il 916, cioè dopo la battaglia del Garigliano.
Difatti nel 916 i soldati sorani annientarono gli ultimi saraceni in San Biagio, che da allora si disse Saracinisco.
Tale notizia fa ritenere certa la vita in quest'epoca a Pescosolido e ci fa supporre che il nostro paese fin dal principio dell'800 avesse già una certa fisionomia ed autonomia, la cui formazione non avvenne in pochi anni, ma si sviluppò nel corso dei secoli.
Nell'852 si trova sotto la Signoria di Pandone, figlio del conte Landone di Capua.
Mons. Piazzoli riferisce ancora che le cronache cassinesi, parlando dei paesi del Comino e anche di Pescosolido, fanno derivare la nascita del nostro paese dai monaci di Montecassino, i quali,avendo evangelizzato alla fine del secolo VI e poi nel secolo VII il cassinate,
vennero più tardi nella nostra zona.
